I don't know how to measure. What do I do?
You don't need exact numbers to request a quote. Rough measurements and clear photos are enough to start, and we confirm everything before we build.
If you'd like to try, here's what you need:
- A tape measure (a 25 ft one is best)
- A pen and paper, or the notes app on your phone
- Your phone camera
- A second person to hold the end of the tape, if possible
What to measure:
- Gates and doors: the width of the opening and the height. Measure the width at both the top and the bottom, since openings aren't always even.
- Railings and fences: the total length of the run and the height you want.
- Stairs: the number of steps, and the width of the staircase.
- Everything: take a few photos from different angles. Put the tape measure in one of the photos so we can see the scale.
Write the numbers down, measure twice, and send them with your photos. If any of it feels unclear, skip it and tell us. We'll visit your property and take the measurements ourselves.
Can you come measure for me?
Yes. If you're not comfortable measuring, or the job is complicated, we'll come to your property and measure it ourselves. Call 646-925-7371 or note it on your quote request.
I can't decide on a design. How do I choose?
You don't have to decide before you contact us. Some ways to get started:
- Look at your home. Traditional or older homes often suit floral designs. Modern homes often suit clean geometric lines. If you want something nobody else on the block has, abstract is the way to go.
- Look through our Gallery and note which pieces you like.
- Send photos of ironwork you like from around the neighborhood or online. We can build something similar or adapt it to your property.
- Think about the finish. Pick a powder coat color that matches your doors, trim, or windows.
- Keep it simple if you're unsure. Simpler designs generally take less time to build.
Tell us what you like and how you plan to use the piece, and we'll suggest options that fit.
Something is broken and I need it fixed fast. What do I do?
Call 646-925-7371 instead of using the form. We handle emergency repairs on metalwork such as gates, fences, railings, security doors, cellar doors, and stairs. Simple fixes can often be welded the same day. Emergency work is priced differently from scheduled jobs, and the cost depends on the repair, so we'll quote you over the phone. Shop hours are Monday to Friday 6 AM to 3 PM and Saturday 6 AM to 12 PM.
We repair and replace metalwork. We don't handle locks or locksmith services.
Do you pull the permits for my project?
On most jobs, the general contractor holds the building permit and our work is done under it, you don't need anything separate. If you're hiring us directly for standalone work, like new railings, a new stair, or a steel canopy, that project may need a permit filed with stamped drawings from a licensed engineer or architect before we install it. We'll tell you upfront if your job needs one, and we can prepare the drawings in house if it does.
Is welding and cutting on site safe and certified?
Yes. Any welding or torch work on site is done with a certified fire watch and a certified torch operator present, and our welders carry current AWS certification. We also hold the required city certification for handling gas cylinders on site.
